Hourly Wage: $15/hour

Dates: October through April, with possible extension through Spring/Summer 2020

JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you love games? Do you hate when games don’t work properly? Are you looking for an outlet for your perfectionist tendencies? If yes, we have the job for you! We are currently looking for someone to help us with quality assurance on our third major title.

Responsibilities

  • Study the game and communicate with the development team to grow a deep understanding of the game’s design goals, conventions, and expected behaviors
  • Identify bugs, usability problems, and balance issues in the game’s interfaces and core gameplay loops
  • Design, document, and conduct testing procedures
  • Attend, observe, and document focus testing sessions
  • Document and clearly communicate bugs, design defects, and potential improvements to the development team

REQUIREMENTS

  • A love of games (and exploring them to the fullest extent!)
  • Familiarity with modern games across multiple genres, AAA and indie
  • Demonstrable interest in sports and/or sports video games
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail

A few things we look for in new team members, regardless of position:

  • Passion. You love to play games as much as you love to make them and you continually seek to hone your craft.
  • A knack for managing your time. You know when to go deeper on a task versus recognizing that it’s time to Get ‘Er Done and move on to the next thing. Quality is important, but so is speed!
  • A willingness to branch into areas outside your core expertise. It’s just a fact of life in a small studio as we adapt to the changing demands at each stage of a project.
  • Drive to execute. Projects you’ve started in the past (work or school) got finished, and got finished properly…and it had a lot to do with you.
  • A sense of humor. At least enough that you can tolerate our dumb jokes.

We’re looking for the right personality as much as (actually probably more than) the right skill set, and are open to different levels of experience.

We are looking for individuals available to work at least 20 hours per week during normal business hours at our office in downtown Victoria.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Don’t sweat the formalities. Just send us an email to jobs@metalheadsoftware.com and tell us why you want to work with us and why we would want to work with you. A general resume is cool, but what we really want to know is specifically why you are a good match with Metalhead.
  • We’re also greatly interested in hearing about specific professional, personal, and/or hobby projects that you’ve been a part of in the past (if they’re collaborative/group projects, please describe your contributions). If you want to share files, a private Dropbox or Google Drive link is best.
